Ergonomic Path Planning for Autonomous Vehicles-An Investigation on the Effect of Transition Curves on Motion Sickness

Motion sickness in self-driving cars is a key human factor that aggravates the passengers’ health autonomous vehicles and investigated following pages. As drivers turn into passengers dwell other activities, probability of car inevitable cars. Path planning could serve an important role reducing sickness. The present study establishes thresholds contribute to motion from vehicle’s dynamic point view generate at first most susceptible reference track sickness, then redesigned using B-spline, Bezier, Hermite curves investigate thresholds. Trajectory tracking eight degree freedom vehicle model within Autodriver algorithm studied curvature dependent independent controllers draw comparison. Results are compared evaluated find optimal transition curve minimize probability. Furthermore, findings applied lane changing maneuvers various curves. indicate four out five were successfully addressed this investigation. Further research recommended address fifth threshold by utilizing curve’s characteristics like local control non-uniformity.
